Turn Up The Volume

It's all about the MUSIC in this section, I grew up in the 1980's buying the weeklies Sounds & NME and fell in love with the art of music photography. Some of my earliest photographs I took were taken from gigs around the Birmingham area. I used to work out how to get as close to the bands as possible and the atmosphere and energy quickly became addictive. I got used to looking at the lighting, stage set-ups and also understanding what part of a song could be the critical moment.

A lot of the time in photography we are thinking ahead, trying to anticipate and predict what is going to happen. All this was a good education so I was ready for the crazy days of Madchester which was to follow in the late 1980's.
